Role Overview

Sea Harvest, a leading South African FMCG and seafood production company with a strong global footprint, is seeking an Occupational Health Nursing Practitioner to join its Health & Safety department in Philippi, Cape Town.

The role is responsible for promoting and maintaining employee health and wellbeing within a high-risk food production environment. This includes clinical care, occupational health compliance, injury management, and preventive health programmes aimed at reducing workplace illness and injury.

The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring that occupational health standards are upheld while supporting a safe, compliant, and healthy working environment for all employees.


Key Responsibilities

Clinical Care & Employee Health Services

  • Provide on-site clinical care, treatment, and basic medical support to employees
  • Administer and dispense medication where required
  • Conduct patient assessments and record medical histories
  • Assess workplace injuries and illnesses and provide appropriate treatment or referral
  • Develop or support treatment plans based on medical assessments
  • Maintain confidentiality and accuracy of all clinical interactions

Occupational Health Management

  • Ensure compliance with occupational health regulations and company health standards
  • Maintain up-to-date employee medical records and health documentation
  • Monitor employee health trends and report findings where necessary
  • Support the prevention and management of occupational injuries and diseases
  • Contribute to workplace health risk assessments and safety initiatives

Injury Management & Incident Response

  • Assess and treat work-related injuries timeously
  • Refer complex cases to company doctors or external healthcare providers when necessary
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records of all workplace incidents
  • Support return-to-work processes and rehabilitation where applicable
  • Ensure compliance with reporting protocols for occupational injuries

Health Compliance & Safety Support

  • Ensure first aid boxes are fully stocked and compliant with legal requirements
  • Maintain updated lists of first aid contents and compliance documentation
  • Support workplace health and safety initiatives within the facility
  • Participate in health and safety audits and inspections

Preventive Health & Wellness Programmes

  • Provide family planning information and related medical services
  • Coordinate audiometry testing with approved external practitioners
  • Support health awareness initiatives and employee wellness programmes
  • Promote preventive healthcare practices in the workplace

Administration & Record Keeping

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical and occupational health records
  • Ensure proper documentation of all treatments, incidents, and assessments
  • Compile health reports as required by management
  • Ensure compliance with internal reporting standards and regulatory requirements

Minimum Requirements

  • Registered with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse
  • Postgraduate Diploma or Certificate in Occupational Health Nursing (essential)
  • Valid dispensing license
  • Valid SANC membership
  • Valid First Aid Certificate
