Job Overview
A leading steel manufacturing and distribution company is seeking an experienced Production Supervisor to join their team in Gqeberha. Key Purpose of the Role
The main purpose of this role is to oversee daily production operations, optimise plant performance, and ensure that production output meets both quality and efficiency targets. You will be responsible for leading production teams, coordinating workflows, and implementing process improvements that enhance productivity and reduce operational costs.
A strong emphasis is placed on safety, discipline, and consistent performance in a demanding manufacturing environment.
Core Responsibilities
The Production Supervisor will be responsible for the following:
Production Operations
- Supervise and coordinate daily production activities to ensure output targets are met
- Plan and control shift operations to maintain smooth production flow
- Monitor production performance and implement improvements where needed
- Adjust schedules and workflows to optimise plant efficiency
Team Leadership & Management
- Lead, mentor, and develop production staff
- Manage shift teams and ensure effective workforce allocation
- Drive performance improvement and accountability within teams
- Promote a disciplined, productive, and safety-conscious work environment
Quality Control
- Ensure production output meets required quality standards
- Monitor processes to reduce defects and improve consistency
- Implement corrective actions where quality issues are identified
- Work closely with quality assurance teams to maintain compliance
Continuous Improvement
- Drive process optimisation and cost-saving initiatives
- Support lean manufacturing and efficiency improvement projects
- Identify bottlenecks and implement corrective measures
- Contribute to operational excellence initiatives
Maintenance & Engineering Collaboration
- Work closely with engineering and maintenance teams to reduce downtime
- Support fault diagnosis and resolution during production disruptions
- Ensure equipment is used effectively and maintained properly
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Enforce strict adherence to health, safety, and environmental regulations (OHS)
- Ensure safe working practices are followed at all times
- Conduct safety monitoring and compliance checks
- Promote a strong safety culture within the production environment
Systems & Data Management
- Analyse production data to improve decision-making and performance
- Use systems such as SAP, SCADA, and production monitoring tools
- Maintain accurate production reports and operational records
- Support data-driven planning and performance improvements
Minimum Requirements
Candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Proven experience as a Production Supervisor or similar role in steel, manufacturing, or heavy industry
- Strong leadership and team management experience
- Solid understanding of production processes and quality control systems
- Experience working with SAP systems
- Familiarity with SCADA and DCS systems (advantageous)
- Strong knowledge of occupational health and safety (OHS regulations)
- Relevant qualification in production, engineering, or safety (advantageous)
- Ability to work in a demanding industrial environment

Salary
- R300 000 – R420 000 per annum (negotiable based on experience)
