Job Overview

Cape Union Mart International is seeking an experienced and driven Assistant Leader to support store operations at its Rustenburg branch.

This role assists in managing overall store performance, including sales, staff supervision, stock control, customer service, and operational compliance. The Assistant Leader works closely with the Store Leader to ensure the store meets financial targets, maintains brand standards, and delivers an excellent customer experience.

The position requires strong retail leadership capability, hands-on operational involvement, and the ability to motivate and support a high-performing team.


Key Responsibilities

Sales & Performance Support

  • Assist in achieving daily, monthly, and annual sales targets
  • Support store profitability through effective operational execution
  • Monitor performance trends and assist in implementing improvement strategies

Stock & Merchandising

  • Ensure adherence to merchandising standards in line with brand requirements
  • Assist in maintaining optimal product mix and store presentation
  • Support stock control processes to minimise loss and ensure product availability
  • Monitor and report stock-related risks

Customer Service

  • Deliver and promote exceptional customer service standards
  • Ensure customer satisfaction is maintained at all times
  • Support resolution of customer queries and concerns

Team Leadership & People Management

  • Assist in recruiting, planning, and managing staff schedules
  • Support payroll administration and workforce planning processes
  • Motivate, guide, and develop team members
  • Assist in performance management and accountability enforcement
  • Promote company culture and create a positive, engaging work environment

Store Operations

  • Implement company policies and procedures consistently
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations
  • Support financial control and cash handling processes
  • Maintain operational discipline across all store functions

Minimum Requirements

  • Strong computer literacy (Microsoft Office)
  • Clear criminal record
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels
  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience in retail
  • At least 5 years’ experience in store management or senior supervisory role
  • Experience working in a high-volume retail store with turnover exceeding R20 million per annum
