Position Overview
Cape Union Mart is seeking a motivated and customer-focused Sales Assistant with visual merchandising responsibilities to join their Cresta store. The successful candidate will play a dual role in delivering excellent customer service while also ensuring that the store’s visual presentation aligns with brand standards and drives sales performance.
Key Responsibilities
Sales & Customer Service
- Deliver exceptional customer service by applying effective selling techniques
- Consistently achieve individual sales targets and contribute to store performance
- Identify opportunities to increase sales and maximise turnover
- Build strong relationships with customers through friendly, professional service
- Handle customer queries, compliments, and complaints in a professional manner
- Process all sales transactions accurately, including cash, card, vouchers, and loyalty payments
- Ensure all merchandise leaving the store is correctly scanned and paid for
- Manage and process loyalty programmes and partner promotions
- Assist customers with stock availability and product information
Stock Control & Store Operations
- Support stock loss prevention through adherence to store policies and procedures
- Assist in maintaining store cleanliness and general housekeeping standards
- Ensure accurate handling and control of stock-related queries
Visual Merchandising
- Maintain and implement visual merchandising standards in line with head office guidelines
- Execute seasonal, promotional, and campaign-based displays on time
- Ensure window displays, in-store layouts, and signage are clean, current, and visually appealing
- Follow visual merchandising instructions to support brand consistency and sales performance
- Contribute to creating an engaging and attractive shopping environment

Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 / Matric or equivalent qualification
- At least 12 months retail experience
Advantageous Requirements
- 1 year or more visual merchandising experience in-store
- Computer literacy (Microsoft Office proficiency)
- Knowledge of fashion or outdoor lifestyle trends (depending on brand focus)
Special Conditions of Employment
- Clean credit and criminal record
- Willingness to work retail hours, including weekends and public holidays
- Ability to assist with new store openings when required
- Must be a South African citizen
