Assistant Director – Occupational Health And Safety Practitioner

Stipend: R468 459Yearly
Location: Gauteng

Requirements Required:

  • A national diploma or degree in Safety Management, or a similar qualification, is required.
  • You need 3-5 years of experience overseeing health and safety in the workplace.
  • You must be able to use computers and have a current driver’s license.
  • You should understand COID, the OHS Act, workplace health and safety rules, HR rules about employee health and safety and Public Service Regulations.
  • You also need to know about agreements related to employee health and safety.
  • You must be able to gather, examine, understand, and share information for performance reviews and related laws.
  • Knowledge of the Basic Conditions of Employment Act and prison financial rules for claims, spending and payments is essential.
  • You need to know project management principles.
  • You should understand how to create budgets, estimate costs, manage spending, and report on finances according to PFMA.
  • You must be able to find and understand important management information.
  • Good communication, presentation, decision-making, and problem-solving skills are necessary.
  • You should be able to connect with and work with others.
  • Finally, you need to be able to create, review, watch, judge, and put policies into action.

Responsiblities Required:

  • Help put into practice workplace safety and health guidelines found in the company’s health and wellness rules.
  • Share information about the laws for workplace safety and injury compensation.
  • Clearly display the workplace safety and injury compensation policy.
  • Teach people about these laws.
  • Train the workplace safety area leaders.
  • Check that workplace safety rules are followed based on the injury compensation laws in the area.
  • Do checks and reviews of workplace safety and injury compensation practices.
  • Watch over and help with choosing and training safety committee members in the area.
  • Take notes at all safety committee meetings and offer guidance.
  • Make sure all levels of safety committees have good meetings.
  • Check that injury records are kept.
  • Make sure all accidents in the area are reported to the local and main offices on time.
  • Work with local hospitals and doctors to handle all medical bills.
  • Regularly check the tool used for safety inspections.
  • Encourage a company culture that values safety, health, environment, risk, and quality in the area.
  • Help put these safety, health, environment, risk, and quality practices into use.
  • Make sure all levels of safety committees have good meetings.
  • Watch what required contractors do during building projects and what contract workers do.
  • Make sure there is a plan for managing waste.
  • Review safety documents from contractors and check they follow the rules.
  • Run programs to teach about occupational health and safety (OHS) and compensation for injuries on duty (COID).
  • Find out what OHS legal training is needed.
  • Help organize updated OHS legal training.
  • Make sure all OHS incidents and accidents, including those under Section 24, are investigated and reported to the government labor office.
  • Watch to see if COID and medical claims are reported and managed well.
  • Help put in place actions to lessen safety, health, environment, and quality (SHEQ) dangers.
  • Help perform risk assessments with those involved.
  • Find dangers and assess risks.
  • Make sure the suggested actions from risk assessments are put into practice in the work areas.
  • Confirm all safety controls are present.
  • Help injured employees get necessary medical tools.
  • Check that planned corrective actions from checks and reviews are carried out in the work area.
  • Confirm that workplace health studies are done.
  • Make sure medical check-ups happen for staff in dangerous zones.
  • Keep and update the list of risks.
  • Send inspection and audit reports to your manager and the main office.
  • Organize and lead emergency plans and response methods for the work area.
  • Ensure approved ways to leave buildings in an emergency are ready for all work spots.
  • Make sure emergency evacuation practices are performed.
